Family Day at Warwick

Pittsburgh Director, Rich Jones came up with an excellent idea, "let’s have a family day for all the interested families we met at Cabin Fever.”
It always rains on me and my mom.

The goal being, lets test our "At Large Family Membership" concept by inviting families to Warwick that are not directly affiliated with one of our club or school programs.  Mr. Jones invited our student mentors to assist.  They were asked to give up a morning of fishing to mentor these families.  The adult mentors oversaw the entire operation.

Dave Thorn, School's Program Director, invited teachers from area schools to attend and bring their families.  The goal here was for these teachers to see for themselves how effective Warwick would be for their Club or Schools Program.  Teachers, Ron Wilcher from Mt. Lebanon, Mike Dean from Carrick (Picures Below) , and Merle Tourney from Montour attended and had a great day.  Mr. Thorn visited Ron Wilcher's Fly fishing club earlier in the month and taught casting to the students and parents.  He and Ron are working to set up a trip to Warwick for later this month.

The picture on the home page has a nice story attached to it that I would like to share.  Pictured is a father and son, we met at Cabin Fever, and a boy that netted the fish.
Look at the fish I caught!

The father hooked the fish, handed the rod to his son.  The young boy struggled mightily to land the fish. Unsuccessful and exhausted he hand the fly rod to his dad for assistance.  Dad finally was able to bring the fish close to shore.  The boy pictured to the left ran over to lend assistance and successfully netted the trout.   A roar of approval went up from all the student mentors, adult mentors, and participants in the area.  Heard over all this commotion were these words of glee from the man's son.  "Look at the fish I caught.”

His baby sister, pictured here with mom, clapped with joy at the effort.
